Let’s go! …and what about running Tim Ryan against JD Vance? Ryan brings labor support, inside knowledge of the legislative process, AND forces the Trump campaign to spend time in OH after thinking they have a Rust Belt winner. Ryan will appeal in MI, WI and PA much more than Vance.

Tim Ryan is a great choice. I rooted for Tim in his senatorial race vs. JD Vance.

Kamela is too much "law 'n' order" (more "order"/less "law") for me. BUT--

I just can't stand the thought of Trump back w/his TEENY finger on the nuke button!

If you think Captain Mark Kelly would be "underpowered" on stage you have not heard him speak! He was a commencement speaker a few years ago and I was incredibly impressed by his ability to relate to, affirm, and inspire the working-adult students. I'm rooting for him! A true hero and a veteran.

wel I don't care for some of your past writings, especially on education, but this was a good piece. Still think the media did a hit job on Biden while, as usual, giving trump a pass.

Joe says to rally behind Kamala. I became a Biden fan when he turned the country around.

I'm honoring Joe and accepting his sage advice by standing with Kamala Harris.

Let's get busy and win in every race!

Thanks again, Jonathan, for this lucidity and eloquence. What a day it was. The fever has broken and now we're in a different place. Thank you for OLD GOATS--an especially apt title this morning.

Thank you for your summation of many of the (good!) issues that can be brought into play for a solid victory at the polls in November.

I am very excited about this development and wish President Biden well, I will be watching all of the things he'll accomplish in the remainder of his time.

I'd also welcome an "open convention" no telling if the DNC could keep it together, but there are plenty of smart people involved, I trust it could be something that re-engages those in the 45 and under age group.

Jonathan isn't sure about a woman/Jewish combo, remember people didn't think JFK could win because he was Catholic. And also not sure about a woman/ woman, combo. In terms of improbability, if Barack Hussein Obama could win ... Anyone with the smarts and accomplishments of Kamala Harris and a woman VP should get their opportunity.

Kamala's choice for VP needs only to be a competent, serious, dedicated, truth-telling candidate. Neither race, gender, nor religious affiliation will matter to an electorate that believes in the promise of democracy.

The Republicans never thought Biden would drop out because they can’t conceive that a person could put the country’s interests above their own ambition.

I am disappointed that it isn't Joe able to carry this. I've never felt safer than with Joe at the helm!!

Thank you Joe, for dedicating your life to our precious Democracy!!! Our world has been a better place because of YOU!!! 💙💙💙

The relief on the part of Democrats on TV today has been palpable. Everyone seems energized, and the money is flowing already. I regret that Joe has to go, too, but we could not simply sleepwalk to defeat this year. Yes, it will still be a very hard race. One question for Jonathan: what about Mike Johnson's threats to keep the Democratic ticket off the ballots? Putting aside the complete irresponsibility of this for a moment, is there any chance that he and our rogue Supreme Court could do this?

i don't think so, Kevin. The lawyers I've consulted are not worried about it. These primaries are only lightly regulated by laws and there's a very long history of Candidates releasing their delegates when they drop out.

I am relieved that Joe actually did this a bit earlier than I thought he would - albeit only by a few days. We now have a fighting chance. But it's hardly a slam dunk. Moreover, I've talked to a lot of Democrats who are STILL saying, "it's over, we've lost this." We've got to energize this people, all of whom will vote for the Democrat, but need to do more than that. They need to be enthusiastic, they need to campaign, to evangelize, to donate. The rap on Kamala Harris has been that she is unexciting, lacks charisma, etc. That's not necessarily my take, but I've heard it way too often. She needs to light this thing up, or we need to find someone who will. The stakes are just too high.
