Woodward and Bernstein stand at the very zenith of American Journalism

One very speciifc and amazing thing about Bob Woodward: He manages to get people to say, on tape, the most incriminating things

I read that in January 2020, Trump said to Bob Woodward, on tape, that covid was going to be an incredible menace because A) it was much, much more contagious than the flu and B) it was much, much more lethal than the flu.

Until late March, he did nothing.

He should have mobilized the nation as soon as He realized how ominous things were. (I read in the NY Times that Diane Feinstein liquidated her stock portfolio in our around January of 2020 because she knew about the imminent cascade of death too) . Trump should have used the Defense Producttion Act to ramp up the production of masks and ventilators, etc. (In the beginning of the crisis, people were told that ordinary people didn't need masks. This was a fiction deliberately disseminated because we did not have enough masks to go around and Health care workers had to be first in line)

In any event, how does Woodward have the social and manipulative skill to make people spill the beans.

I was in law school when the "Watergate" burglary occurred, then the hearings were happening later. We raced to the bookstore/grill every morning to slurp coffee and grab the Washington Post to read all about it. It was a heady time, and many of my classmates went to Washington after graduation to "make things better."

How we failed--miserably.

This interview is breathtaking--revives all the passion we were feeling back then. I wish to express my eternal gratitude to Woodward and Bernstein and to you for keeping the TRUTH alive, even if so many of our fellow Americans spinelessly don't give a damn now!

I studied journalism in college then eventually got a BS in history

I have saved these quotes:

People respond when you're looking for the best obtainable version of the truth — not all of them, but if you’re straightforward and a good listener, experience shows that this basic methodology, even today, is still how to get the information as reporters.

It's all about getting the evidence. That's what reporting is. That's what the best obtainable version of the truth is. But it is not neutral.

I have always written songs, and have always followed this kind of excellent advice.

Great post.

Thank you.

COMPARING PRESIDENTS Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward are commendable for reminding the older generation, and informing the younger generation, of the story that the duo broke: This country was once led by a corrupt president, who made his exit because even members of his own party refused to overlook his bad behavior. That is the factor that we lack with the current corrupt presidential candidate, who is staging a comeback bid. These journalists interviewed many Republicans who admitted privately that they don't support Donald Trump, contrary to their public declarations.

"There are, in the body politic, economic and social, many and grave evils, and there is urgent necessity for the sternest war upon them. There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man whether politician or business man, every evil practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine, or newspaper, with merciless severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use only if it is absolutely truthful."

— President Theodore Roosevelt, 1906

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein carry on a great American tradition, once known as muckraking, that began in the 1880s and grew through about 1920. They resurrected the genre in the 1970s and became the new champions of investigative journalism.

Trump would be more popular today if he had had the nerve to defy the "experts" such as Dr. Fauci and prevent the Covid closedown. America is fat-- The Donald knows this because he is fat- and most of his supporters are too. Dr. Fauci knew it since he has covered up the fraudulent BMI which the CDC adopted in 1985. And, unlike Trump, he is the thinnest and shortest guy in every room. Why can't liberals LOOK? The airlines are already smiling about how much fuel they will save when Ozempic and Mounjaro in pill form are in 65% of American MOUTHS. We have damaged population and we will never recover from the Covid crap. Soon all cities will have a major real estate collapse-- NYC in particular-- because the fat sloppy "teams" won't go back to the office. American is in decline. Ozempic will prevent the entire health system from imploding but with FIVE eating orders and everyone else eating disordered, we are a mess physically and mentally. LOOK!
